Beat the heat for a couple of days and join Pack 29 for a summer family camping trip at Appletree Campground in the cool mountains of western North Carolina. The campground is next to the Nantahala River where a refreshing splash awaits as well as the opportunity to catch rainbow, brook, and brown trout. There are over 32 miles of hiking trails within access of the campground. Downriver, the Nantahala Outdoor Center (NOC) is a popular destination for more high adventure activities and is only a half hour away (there are various minimum and maximum age and weight restrictions for many of their activities). The campground has restrooms with showers and flush toilets, a fire pit area; and a picnic shelter. There is NO ELECTRICITY available in the campground. This campout will be relaxed and mostly unstructured. The only planned activities will be our meals.

You may arrive at the camp anytime on Friday, June 27th (or come on Saturday if you like, just let us know when you register). Meals will be provided on Saturday and Sunday morning - Friday meals are own your own. We will have hot water and a couple of camp stoves available for your use on Friday evening. There will be some snacks provided by the pack throughout the weekend, but bring your own too. A duty roster will be prepared to help with camp chores.

Often this time of year, the temperatures only reach into the low 70’s during the day and fall into the low 50’s at night. Brief, intense afternoon thunderstorms are common as well. So heed the Boy Scout motto and Be Prepared!

A full information packet with a schedule and a suggested packing list for the trip can be downloaded from our pack website (click here). If you need to borrow any camping equipment or have any questions, contact Clyde Wikle.

Dont hesitate to register because the trip is limited to the first 50 people to sign up. The cost to attend is $40 per family. The deadline for registration is Monday, June 23 at 10:00 pm CDT. Payment must be made via this website (via Paypal).
